Lately, there has been an uproar about the Indian cricketer’s participation in the IPL ,making them injury prone and hence not fit to join team India.
This is what it appears if one were to conclude parochially. Let us dig a little deep, put ourselves in these cricketer’s shoes and more importantly in a constructive critic’s shoes& perceive the matter not to draw distinction between India and IPL put b/w our own perception and the reality.

Ask any hardcore viewers of the IPL and not to mention those who have had the chance of watching it in the stadium if the matches were entertaining, pat comes the reply with a resounding YES!.And mind you this is irrespective of which team wins. One may wonder why there is such a frenzy .The reason-the likes of sachin,dhoni etc., .It is bcos of such cricketers that IPL is such a mouth watering prospect. It is bcos of them that the mindshare of an IPL tournament is much more than any other ICC tournament. Tit bcos o them that a Bangalorean for instance would still watch a KKR vs. CSK encounter with almost or if not equal enthu to watching a Blore match.This is as opposed to an Indian not being one bit interested about the outcome of an ENG vs NZ match unless of course it has a bearing on India’s fortunes.

To people who may think otherwise, well, All I can say is that a mathematical sample population of approximately =the crowd in an IPL match *no. of IPL matches till date is no small a sample to make the probability of the aforesaid a ‘possibility’
So who are the beneficiaries in the entire equation ? It is obviously the Indian public and NOT entirely the players par se , for in today’s world one likes to watch an arbitrary IPL encounter rather than a test match as a source of ‘personal entertainment’
Besides it is not as if an Indian player is representing NZ to face SAF and is not being available to be a part of Team India!!(Although this is a crude eg., I am sure it conveys what I intend to say).IPL participation can simply not be equated to that as the people would by now have not entertained it to entertain them with its showbiz.

From a professional’s point of view, treating the game as a thorough profession and the viewers as the customers, I see the players harming neither !!for the customers are walking in (or swarming in!)to buy (or should I say grab!) the product services. Its no wonder them the IPL is such a big commercial hit!

After all who doesn’t want a job to not only increase the sales/customers but also benefit oneself by a higher pay,

I don’t intend to support hosting IPL over the national team’s matches.Not at all, for I am for the latter and I hate to watch IPL (I know I am in the minority :p ).But I am a critic of those who watch the IPL with their eyes glued but exhibit their hypocrisies by criticizing the players for their patriotism for the country. So let us either NOT watch the IPL and bring cricket back to its olden days OR watch the IPL and not brood over the players’ choice of participation!!

P.S:-Another incident pops up just when iam drawing the curtains down–the days when we would climb tall coconut trees to pluck our intermission drinks while playing cricket in our Auckland…Not even the Indian team is as privileged to have such refreshments … i s’pos

New Delhi, June 2 (IANS) Are you suffering from acidity, obesity or reduced attention span? Perhaps you are skipping breakfast, also called brain food and the most important meal of the day.

People in cities tend to give breakfast a miss perhaps due to hectic lifestyles or in the belief that it will keep them slim. But experts say it could end up making people obese.

‘People do not seem to have time for breakfast these days. They have every reason to avoid the healthy tradition of having a good nutritious breakfast,’ Anita Jatana, chief dietician at the Batra Hospital here, told IANS.

Describing it as a change in perception and lifestyle, she said: ‘People usually do not eat because of their tight work schedules, late night dinners, zero figure obsession or just anything else that keeps them away from a healthy breakfast.’

According to the dieticians, breakfast is most essential. They say breakfast must be balanced and should include nutrients like calcium (milk or milk products), proteins and fibre (sprouts or cereal), and some amount of antioxidants (apples, strawberries, banana, oranges, etc) and vitamins.

‘Often called ‘brain food’, breakfast needs to be wholesome and it should essentially contain all the vital nutrients that the body craves for,’ Ritika Samadar, chief dietician at Max Hospital, told IANS.

A nutritious breakfast is necessary to keep the body’s metabolism going properly.

‘Generally, there is a gap of 10 to 12 hours between the dinner and breakfast and it is anyway very long for the body to resist.’ In case, breakfast is skipped, ‘we add some more hours, hence affecting the body’s metabolism’, Samadar said.

Jatana feels long gaps between meals can also cause digestion problems. ‘Not eating on time leads to a lot of ailments. Obesity, acidity, reduced attention span and ulceration are a few on the list.’

Owing a great deal to Kareena Kapoor’s size zero, people have become obsessed with ultra thin figures and they feel not eating will help lose weight. But experts say it is the beginning of many problems.

‘People think that if they skip breakfast, they will lose weight. But it is a myth. They gain weight at a faster rate instead because they end up eating more than in the normal course,’ said Priti Vijay, head dietician at Max Hospital, Saket.

‘In the long run, if more meals are skipped in a day than just the breakfast, it can also lead to shrinking of the stomach and intestines,’ Jatana said.

The ideal time for breakfast is between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Any delay results in weight gain.

‘Half of overweight patients have a tendency to skip breakfast,’ said Vijay. ‘Some 60 to 70 percent patients who come to me with digestion or stomach-related problems or for advice on weight gain disclose that they frequently miss their breakfast.’

Perhaps it is time to take an old proverb seriously – ‘Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper’.
